Joachim Andersen (29 April 1847 – 7 May 1909) was a Danish flutist ), conductor, and composer. He was born in Copenhagen to Christian Joachim Andersen, also a flutist. Andersen studied flute with his father and later with the principal flutist of the Royal Danish Orchestra, Antoine Lindenbaum. He became a member of the orchestra at the age of 17 and was appointed as the principal flutist in 1873, a position he held for the rest of his career.
Andersen was a prolific composer, and his works include more than 40 pieces for flute and orchestra, numerous chamber works, and over 100 works for solo flute. He is best known for his etudes, particularly his Op. 15 Twenty-Four Studies for Flute, which are still widely used by flutists today. His music is characterized by its romantic style, technical difficulty, and melodic charm. He was also known for his elegant and expressive playing style, which was highly influential on subsequent generations of flutists.
In addition to his activities as a performer and composer, Andersen was also a respected conductor and teacher. He conducted many orchestras throughout Europe and was a professor of flute at the Paris Conservatory from 1906 until his death in 1909.
