Full biography Jeremiah Clarke
Jeremiah Clarke (c. 1674 – 1 December 1707) was an English Baroque composer and organist , who was born in London. Clarke is best known for his Trumpet Voluntary , a popular piece often played at weddings and graduations.
Clarke was educated at St. Paul's Cathedral, where he became a choirboy at the age of eleven. Later, he became the organist at St. Paul's and then moved on to become the organist at Winchester College. Finally, in 1704, he was appointed as the organist and composer at the Chapel Royal.
Although Clarke wrote a significant amount of religious music, much of it has been lost over time. In addition to his church compositions, Clarke also wrote secular music, such as songs and incidental music for plays.
Clarke's Trumpet Voluntary, which was once attributed to Henry Purcell, has become one of the most recognizable pieces of classical music. However, Clarke's music career was short-lived when he took his own life at the age of 32. The reason behind his suicide remains unknown, and it only adds to the intrigue of his life and work.
Today, Clarke is remembered as an accomplished baroque composer and organist, whose contribution to music has left an indelible mark on the world.
