Short bio Jean-Yves Bosseur
Full biography Jean-Yves Bosseur
Jean-Yves Bosseur is a French composer and writer born on February 5, 1947, in Paris. He studied composition with the well-known composers Henri Pousseur and Karlheinz Stockhausen among others. Bosseur has produced a wide variety of music compositions for various ensembles such as orchestras, string quartets, solo instruments, electronic instruments, voice, and various combinations of these. Bosseur is also known for his groundbreaking research and writing on music and the relationship between music and other disciplines such as literature, film, and visual arts.
Bosseur has also written books on contemporary music, including "Le Classicisme de Varèse" and "Le Langage musical de György Ligeti." He is also known for creating a new form of notation, which he calls "sound action scoring," in which he represents the sounds of a musical composition with graphic symbols that indicate the physical actions that will produce those sounds. This enables performers to have more freedom in their interpretation of the composition, as they are not constrained by traditional notation.
In addition to his work in music composition and writing, Bosseur has also performed and collaborated with other musicians, including Morton Feldman. He continues to be an influential figure in the world of contemporary music and a respected teacher of composition and music theory at institutions such as the Conservatoire National de Région in Lyon and the Université de Paris-Sorbonne.
