Full biography Jean-Joseph Fiocco
Jean-Joseph Fiocco (15/12/1686 - 30/03/1746) was a Belgian composer and musician of the late Baroque period. He was born in Brussels and came from a family of prominent musicians, with his father being the Italian composer Pietro Antonio Fiocco and his older step-brother Jean-Joseph Fiocco , who gave him much of his musical education.
Jean-Joseph Fiocco was known for his sacred works , including his nine Repons de mort , although it is unfortunate that these works are considered lost today. He also wrote numerous other sacred works that were published in Monumenta Musicae Belgicae (vol.III).
Despite his talent as a composer and musician , Jean-Joseph Fiocco struggled financially during his lifetime. This led him to seek employment as a composer and musician at the ducal court in Brussels where he held the position until his death.
Overall, Jean-Joseph Fiocco was a gifted composer and musician of the late Baroque period. Although many of his works have been lost, his legacy lives on through his surviving repertoire which showcases the depth and range of his musical talent.
