Full biography Jan Kalivoda
Jan Ktitel Vclav Kalivoda was a Czech composer , conductor, and violinist who lived in the 19th century. He was born on February 21, 1801, in Prague, Bohemia, which is now part of the Czech Republic. Kalivoda studied violin and composition with highly respected musicians and composers in Prague, including Josef Slavik and Vaclav Tomasek.
Throughout his career, Kalivoda wrote a variety of instrumental music, including symphonies, chamber music, and operas. His compositions are known for their lyricism, virtuosity, and expressivity. Some of his most famous works include his six string quartets, his two string quintets, and his opera The Corsair.
Kalivoda spent much of his professional life as a conductor, working for courts and orchestras in Moravia, Hungary, and Austria. He was also the Court Conductor for Prince Heinrich XV of Reuss in Germany. He traveled extensively throughout Europe, conducting and performing his own music.
Despite his considerable success during his lifetime, Kalivoda's music fell out of favor after his death in 1866. It was only in the late 20th century that there was renewed interest in his works. Today, Kalivoda is recognized as an important composer of the Romantic period in Czech music history and his music is regularly performed and recorded.
