Jakob Rosenhain was a German pianist and composer born in Mannheim in December 1813. He was part of a family of musicians, with his father being a violinist and his brother Edward Rosenhain, being a pianist and composer. Jakob was known for his skill as a pianist, and he also composed a number of works for piano, including the Serenade for Cello and Piano and piano pieces. In addition to his piano works, Rosenhain also wrote two works for piano and orchestra - Concertino and a concerto , which are still performed today. He was also known for his compositions for string quartet, including the tone poem "Am Abend". Rosenhain was a contemporary of the composer Carl Gottfried Wilhelm Taubert , and the two were featured together on a collection of piano concertos released by the Hyperion record label. Despite his talents as a composer and pianist, Rosenhain is not widely known today, but his music is still performed and appreciated by those who know it.
