Jakob Haibel was an Austrian composer who was born in Graz, Austria on July 20, 1762. He wrote mainly in the genre of Singspiel, which is a type of German-language opera that includes spoken dialogue as well as singing. Haibel also composed incidental music for plays and ballets.

Haibel was associated with the Weber family, and he married Sophie Weber, the youngest sister of Constanze Weber, who was famously married to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Haibel and Sophie had a son named Franz after Mozart's father Leopold, who was his godfather.

Haibel's most famous works include the Singspiele Die Reise nach Braunschweig and Der Jäger und das Waldmädchen. He also composed music for the ballet Le nozze disturbate and wrote concert arias for Josepha Weber , Constanze's older sister and a renowned opera singer of the time.

Haibel passed away in Apatin, Yugoslavia on March 24, 1826, at the age of 63. His legacy lives on as a representative of the golden age of Austrian Singspiel, and his music continues to be performed today.
