Jacob Thune Hansen Gade (29 November 1879 – 20 February 1963) was a Danish composer and violinist , known for his contributions to orchestral popular music. He established himself as an innovator in film music and international music scene during his time, and his works continue to be appreciated today.
Gade's most famous work is "Jalousie", a gypsy tango written in 1925. It was composed for the opening of the American silent film "Don Q". The piece became an instant success and went on to become one of the most famous tangos ever composed. It has been covered by many artists and is still widely popular today.
Aside from "Jalousie", Gade composed a number of other orchestral pieces and works for film. He was also a conductor of a 24-man orchestra at the Palads silent movie theater in Copenhagen.
Gade's success as a composer and musician allowed him to tour extensively throughout Europe and the United States. He received many honors during his lifetime, including the Order of the Dannebrog, and was recognized for his contributions to Danish music.
Today, Jacob Gade's music continues to be celebrated and his legacy endures. His compositions are still played by orchestras and ensembles around the world, and his influence can be felt in many genres of music.
