István Láng was a Hungarian musician, composer, and teacher born on December 23, 1933, in Szeged, Hungary. He was the son of a music teacher and began his musical education at an early age. Láng studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he trained in composition, music theory, and piano performance. He later went on to earn a doctorate in musicology at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Throughout his career, Láng composed music for a variety of mediums, including symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, soloists, and choirs. He was known for blending traditional Hungarian folk music with 20th-century composition techniques, creating a unique and captivating sound. In addition to composing, Láng was also an active music teacher, serving as a professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where he taught composition and music theory.

Láng was a prolific composer, with over 200 works to his name. Some of his most notable pieces include his Clarinet Concerto, which premiered in 1973, and his String Quartet No. 3, which premiered in 1985. In 2014, he was awarded the Hungarian Order of Merit for his contributions to Hungarian culture and music.

Sadly, Láng passed away on May 15, 2018, at the age of 84. However, his musical legacy continues to inspire new generations of composers and musicians in Hungary and beyond.
