Iris ter Schiphorst is a contemporary composer known for her innovative and experimental approach to music. Born in the Netherlands in 1956, she studied composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and went on to receive numerous awards and recognitions for her work.
Throughout her career, Ter Schiphorst has explored a wide range of musical genres and techniques, from traditional orchestral works to electronic music and multimedia installations. She has collaborated with visual artists, dancers, and theater groups to create unique and immersive experiences for audiences.
One of her most notable works is "Lautwerk", a composition for solo voice, electronic sound, and live video, which won the prestigious Karl Sczuka Prize in 2005. She has also composed music for films and television, including the German thriller "The Silence" in 2010.
Ter Schiphorst has been a professor of composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt since 2002 and has mentored numerous young composers in their own work. She continues to push the boundaries of contemporary music and is considered one of the most exciting and influential composers of her generation.
