Howard Boatwright (1918-1999) was an American composer, violinist, and music professor. Born in Connecticut, he began playing violin at a young age and went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He later studied composition at the Paris Conservatory.

Boatwright had a successful career as a composer, writing numerous works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and chorus. He was known for his use of innovative and modern musical techniques, and he was a pioneer in the use of electronic music.

In addition to his work as a composer, Boatwright was also a respected violinist, performing as a soloist and chamber musician throughout his career.

Boatwright was a professor of music at Syracuse University for many years, where he taught composition and music theory. He mentored several generations of musicians and was known for his passionate and engaging teaching style.

Boatwright's works have been performed by orchestras and ensembles throughout the world, and he received numerous awards and honors during his lifetime. He passed away in 1999 at the age of 80.
