Throughout his career, Blendinger was known for his innovative use of serial techniques and his incorporation of electronic music. His early works, such as his Piano Sonata No.1, were heavily influenced by the Austro-German tradition. However, over time, he started exploring more contemporary modalities and creating more experimental pieces.
One of his most famous works is his Chamber Symphony No. 2, which was composed in 1983. The piece was written for an ensemble of six instruments and explores the use of serial techniques, melodic development, and nuanced harmonies.
Herbert Blendinger's contribution to the Austrian music landscape cannot be overstated. Not only did he leave a lasting impact on the field of composition, but he also worked tirelessly to promote the works of other composers, and he served as a mentor and teacher for many young musicians.
