Helen Tobias-Duesberg was an Estonian composer, born on August 27th, 1920 in Tallinn, Estonia. She grew up in a musical family, with her father, Eduard Tobias, being a well-known composer in Estonia. Her early exposure to music led to her love for music, and she also began composing music at a young age.

Tobias-Duesberg studied at the Tallinn Conservatory and later moved to Germany to study music composition and theory under some of the best music educators of the time, including Paul Hindemith, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Helmut Lachenmann. She later moved to the United States, where she continued her studies at Indiana University and the University of Michigan.

During her lifetime, Tobias-Duesberg composed more than 150 pieces of music, including operas, chamber music, symphonies, and oratorios. Her compositions were often inspired by her Estonian roots and the rich musical heritage of the country. Her most significant work was her opera "The Changeling," which premiered in Tallinn in 1965 and was later performed in several other European cities, including Paris, Salzburg, and Frankfurt.

Tobias-Duesberg's contribution to Estonian classical music was significant, and she was highly regarded both in Estonia and abroad. Her work was known for its unique blend of contemporary composition techniques and traditional Estonian folk music. In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded several prestigious awards, including the Order of the Estonian Red Cross, The Order of the Estonian Coat of Arms, and the Latvian Order of the Three Stars.

Tobias-Duesberg passed away on November 8th, 2010, in California, leaving behind a rich legacy of music that continues to inspire contemporary composers to this day.
