Short bio Heinrich Albert
Full biography Heinrich Albert
Heinrich Albert (1604-1651) was a German Baroque composer and poet. He is best known for his collection of songs, "Arien," which contains over 170 solo songs and duets, many of which are still performed today. Albert began his career as a Lutheran cantor in Koenigsberg, where he also served as a tutor and musician for Duke Albrecht. He then worked as a music teacher and choirmaster in Konigsberg, before taking on the position of town musician in his hometown of Lobenstein.
Apart from his vocal works, Albert also wrote instrumental music, including guitar quartets and duos. He was influenced by Italian Baroque music and played an important role in popularizing the guitar in Germany. His works, especially his Arien, were widely circulated and performed during his time and still remain popular today.
In addition to his music, Albert was also a poet and wrote several hymns. He died in 1651 in Lobenstein at the age of 47. Albert's contributions to Baroque music, particularly his vocal music and his role in advancing the guitar as a respectable instrument, have ensured his legacy as an important figure in German music history.
