Short bio Hans Huber
Full biography Hans Huber
Hans Huber (1852-1921) was a Swiss composer who was widely regarded as one of the leading figures in Swiss music during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was born in Eppenberg, Switzerland, and studied music at the Basel Conservatory and in Leipzig before returning to Switzerland to work as a teacher and composer. He was influenced by a variety of musical styles, including German Romanticism and French Impressionism, and his music is characterized by its lush, orchestral textures and imaginative harmonies.
Huber composed in a wide variety of genres, including symphonies, operas, concertos, choral works, chamber music, and piano music. He is perhaps best known for his set of 24 Preludes and Fugues , Op. 100, which are modeled after Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier. He also wrote numerous songs, including many settings of German poetry, and was a prolific composer of chamber music, which often featured the piano as a prominent instrument.
Huber's music is largely characterized by its lush harmonies and imaginative orchestrations. He was particularly interested in using unconventional chord progressions and harmonies, which often gave his music a highly expressive and emotional quality. His music was widely performed during his lifetime, both in Switzerland and abroad, and he was considered one of the most important Swiss composers of his generation.
While Huber's music is now less well-known than that of some of his contemporaries, it remains an important part of the Swiss classical music tradition and continues to be performed and recorded by orchestras and ensembles around the world.
