Gustave Doret was a Swiss composer who was born on January 28, 1866, in Lausanne, Switzerland. He began his music education at an early age, studying harp, piano, and composition at the Conservatory of Lausanne. Later, he continued his studies in Geneva, Paris, and Berlin, where he received instruction from some of the most renowned composers of his time.

Doret's works were influenced by the Romantic style, and he often composed pieces that were both emotional and introspective. His love for nature was evident in many of his works, which often included themes of pastoral landscapes and the beauty of the natural world.

He is best known for his opera "Ghismonda" which was premiered in 1895 and experienced great success throughout Europe. Doret was also an accomplished pianist, and he performed extensively throughout Europe, earning a reputation for his virtuoso playing style.

In addition to his opera and piano works, Doret also composed numerous other pieces, including chamber music, orchestral works, and songs. His music received critical acclaim, and he was considered one of the most significant composers of his time.

Sadly, Gustave Doret's life was cut short due to a tragic accident. He died on August 27, 1896, at the young age of 30, after falling from the roof of a hotel in Interlaken, Switzerland.
