Gustav Jenner was a German composer , conductor, and musical scholar born on December 3, 1865, in Germany. He was also known by his birth name, Cornelius Uwe Gustav Jenner. Jenner was a pupil of the famous German composer Johannes Brahms and later taught music at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin.

Initially, Jenner worked as a conductor and musical scholar. However, he started writing music in the 1880s and gained recognition for his short piano pieces. Jenner was heavily influenced by his teacher, Johannes Brahms, whose music he promoted throughout his career.

Jenner's compositions include chamber music, symphonic music, and lieder. He wrote a piano quartet, a piano trio, and a violin sonata, among other significant works. Although he was not as famous as his teacher, his music was well-regarded during his lifetime.

In addition to his compositions, Jenner also contributed to music scholarship by transcribing and editing Brahms' works. He transcribed Brahms' German Requiem for four-hand piano, made a piano reduction of Brahms' Second Symphony, and completed some of Brahms' unfinished compositions, including an organ chorale and two songs.

Jenner suffered from tuberculosis and died on August 29, 1920, at the age of 54. Despite being relatively unknown today, Gustav Jenner remains an important figure in the history of German music, particularly as a pupil and promoter of the music of Johannes Brahms.
