Guillaume Costeley was a French composer of the Renaissance period, who was born in 1530 or possibly 1531, and died on January 28, 1606. He was one of the leading composers of chansons in France in the 1560s, along with Claude Goudimel , Nicolas de La Grotte , and Nicolas Millot. Costeley served as the court organist to Charles IX of France , and wrote over 100 chansons, some of which continued to be reprinted until 1633. He was also one of the few identified composers of 16th century French keyboard music.

Costeley's chansons were known for their flowing polyphony , and they were often written in chordal sections. He was a master of counterpoint, and his compositions influenced the development of French chanson. One of his most famous works is "Mignonne allons voir si la rose." Costeley's chansons were highly regarded during his lifetime, and he was one of the most respected composers of his generation.

In addition to his chansons, Costeley also wrote keyboard music, including sets of dances and variations. He was known for his skill on the organ, and his keyboard music shows a deep understanding of counterpoint and harmony.
