Gordon Getty is an American composer and businessman, born on December 20, 1933. Gordon is the fourth child of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty and played a major role in the sale of his family's Getty Oil to Texaco. Apart from his business engagements, Gordon has made a lifetime of contributions to the world of classical music and is a well-known composer in the field. He has composed operas, as well as orchestral, choral, and chamber music. His music has been performed by several major orchestras across the United States, such as the San Francisco Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
Gordon Getty's compositions often draw inspiration from literature, including works by William Shakespeare and Edgar Allan Poe, as well as from his own personal experiences. As of 2023, Gordon continues to compose and has added a fourth opera to his list of compositions.
Aside from his musical contributions , Gordon is also known for his philanthropy work and has made significant donations to various organizations in the United States. In 2018, Gordon's wife, Ann Getty, hosted an 85th birthday soiree for him in San Francisco , which was attended by family, friends, and admirers of his work.
