Giovanni Battista Conforti (1695-1764) was an Italian composer who lived during the Baroque period. Born in Bologna, he was a pupil of Padre Martini, one of the most important musicologists and composers of the time. He later became a music teacher in his hometown, where he also conducted operas, oratorios and cantatas.

Conforti was known for his sacred vocal music, and his works were performed extensively in churches throughout Italy. He wrote a number of masses, motets, and psalms, which were noted for their lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and skillful counterpoint. His music was admired for its emotional depth and the expressive use of dissonance, which were typical of the Baroque style.

One of Conforti's most famous works was the oratorio "San Gabriele," which tells the story of the archangel Gabriel. This piece was performed in Bologna and other Italian cities during the 18th century and was highly regarded for its innovative use of vocal and instrumental textures.

Despite his talent, Conforti's music is not as well-known today as some of his contemporaries, such as Handel or Bach. However, his contributions to Baroque music and his influence on other composers during his time cannot be overlooked. His works continue to be studied and performed by scholars and musicians who appreciate the beauty and complexity of his music.
