Short bio Giovanni Battista Cirri
Full biography Giovanni Battista Cirri
Giovanni Battista Cirri was an Italian composer and cellist who lived from 1724-1808. He was born in Forlì, Italy, and showed a talent for music at an early age. He began studying the cello and quickly became a virtuoso, performing throughout Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. In addition to his performing career, he also composed a large body of works for the cello, including sonatas, duos, and concertos.
Cirri's music is characterized by its lyricism, expressiveness, and technical demands, reflecting his own virtuosic abilities as a cellist. His works were well-received during his lifetime and influenced later composers, such as Luigi Boccherini and Antonio Vivaldi.
Today, some of Cirri's most famous works for the cello include his Sonata in D Major, Op. 14, No. 1, and his Sonata in G Major, Op. 5, No. 9. He is also known for his collaborations with other musicians, including the Italian violinist and composer Francesco Maria Veracini.
Despite his success as a composer and performer, Giovanni Battista Cirri fell into obscurity after his death in Forlì in 1808. However, his music has been rediscovered in recent years and is now recognized as an important example of the virtuosic cello music of the eighteenth century.
