He was popular during the 16th century, and his works were published in various books throughout his career. Caimo worked as the organist at the Santa Barbara Church in Mantua, Italy since 1576, and he received recognition for his works during his lifetime.

Caimo's compositions include numerous madrigals and canzonettas, which were published in various books such as his first book of madrigals for five voices (Milan , 1572) and his second book of canzonettas (Venice , 1584).
