La Hèle was considered one of the most remarkable composers of his time, and his works were highly esteemed by his contemporaries. He was associated with the Royal Chapel of Brussels, where he served for over 25 years as a singer, chapel master, and composer.

La Hèle developed a style of composition that was uniquely his own. His works were characteristically polyphonic, with intricate textures that were both elaborate and beautiful. He was highly regarded for his use of melody and counterpoint, which he used to great effect in his compositions.
