Georg Reutter the Younger (6 April 1708 – 11 March 1772) was an Austrian composer who was active during the mid-18th century. He was born in Vienna, Austria, and received his early musical education at the St. Stephen's Cathedral in the city. Later on, he became the chapel master at the same cathedral, and his works were regularly performed by the choir there.
Georg Reutter was known for his church compositions, particularly his settings of the Mass, which were regarded as some of the finest examples of the art form during his time. He was also noted for his instrumental works, including concertos for various instruments and symphonies, which were also highly regarded.
In addition to his activities as a composer, Georg Reutter was also a renowned music teacher. His pupils included several notable composers, such as Joseph and Michael Haydn, as well as Leopold Hofmann and Antonio Soler. His influence as a teacher and composer was considerable, and he played an important role in the development of Viennese music during the mid-18th century.
Georg Reutter's works have been recorded and performed by many modern-day musicians and ensembles, including Olivia Vermeulen and Nuovo Aspetto, and can still be appreciated and enjoyed today.
