Georg Neumark was a German poet and composer of hymns , born on March 16, 1621, in Langensalza, Thuringia, Germany. He is best known for his hymn "Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten," which is still widely sung today. Neumark also wrote several other hymns and poetry throughout his life.
In addition to his work as a composer and poet, Neumark was also a survivor of the Thirty Years' War, during which he was robbed of all his possessions and left to beg for a living. Despite these hardships, Neumark persevered and eventually found work as a tutor, enabling him to continue writing and composing music.
Neumark's contribution to Lutheran hymnody was significant, and his hymns are still sung widely today. He died on July 18, 1681, in Weimar, Germany, leaving behind a rich legacy of beautiful hymns and poetry.
