Full biography Georg Katzer
Georg Katzer (10 January 1935 – 7 May 2019) was a German composer known for his contributions to electro-acoustic, multi-media, and radiophonic compositions. He was born in Silesia, which is now part of Poland, but grew up in Rostock, Germany.
After studying music at Rostock's music conservatory from 1953 to 1956, he continued his studies in composition at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin. Following his graduation in 1963, he became an independent composer and remained active until his passing in 2019.
Over the years, Katzer authored many operas, instrumental stage works, multi-media compositions, radiophonic compositions, and electro-acoustic music pieces. He was particularly interested in integrating technological advancements into his compositions, utilizing electronic sounds and incorporating them into music genres that normally do not accept them.
Throughout his career, Katzer won numerous awards, including the National Prize of East Germany in 1977 and the Hector Berlioz Prize in Lyon, France in 1995. He was a resident artist at several international institutions , such as the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the American Academy in Berlin.
Overall, Georg Katzer was an important figure in the world of contemporary music, and his unique style and approach to composition continue to inspire new generations of composers.
