Georg Forster was a German geographer , naturalist, ethnologist, travel writer, journalist, and composer. He was born on November 26, 1754, in Nassenhuben, a village in the Duchy of Saxony. Forster began his career as a journalist, working for several newspapers in Germany, Switzerland, and France.

In addition to his work as a journalist and writer, Forster was also a composer. He wrote both hymns and other musical works. One example is the hymn "Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier," which is still sung in churches today. Forster's musical style is said to be influenced by the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Forster is perhaps best known for his involvement in the second voyage of Captain James Cook. He was hired as the expedition's naturalist and wrote extensively about the voyage in his travelogue "A Voyage Round the World." Forster's work on the voyage helped to advance the fields of geography, anthropology, and natural history.

Throughout his life, Forster was involved in various political movements, including the French Revolution. He was also a proponent of human rights and democracy. Forster died on January 10, 1794, at the age of 39. Today, he is remembered as an important figure in the fields of exploration, science, and music.
