Georg Christoph Strattner (c. 1645 – April 1704) was a German church musician , composer, and hymn writer. He was born in Hungary around 1645 and became a choir boy in Stuttgart at the age of 14. In 1663, he was appointed as a court and church musician in Oettingen-Wallerstein. Later on, he worked as a director of music in Coburg and Gotha.
Strattner composed works in a variety of genres, including sacred music, secular music, and songs. He is best known for his church music, particularly his hymns. Some of his well-known hymns include "Father, Lead Me Day by Day" and "For Thy Mercy and Thy Grace".
In addition to his compositions, Strattner was also known for his musical arrangements and transcriptions. He was praised for his ability to adapt and reinterpret existing musical works to fit the needs of different settings.
Today, Strattner is considered one of the leading composers of the Central German Baroque period. While much of his music has been lost over time, several of his compositions have been preserved and continue to be performed and studied by musicians and scholars today.
