Full biography Georg Christoph Biller
Georg Christoph Biller (1955-2022) was a well-known German choral conductor, composer, baritone, and teacher. He was the Thomaskantor, or director of music, at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, where he continued the tradition started by Johann Sebastian Bach of providing talented young musicians for church services and concerts.
Biller was a respected musician, who during his tenure, expanded the choir’s repertoire by introducing new works and reviving rarely performed works. His conducting was known for its dynamism and precision, which brought out the best in the talented members of his choir. He was also a prolific composer, and his works have been performed and recorded by leading ensembles in Germany and abroad.
Biller passed away on January 27, 2022, at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most important figures in German choral music. His work, both as a conductor and composer, will continue to be celebrated and appreciated for many years to come.
