Georg Caspar Schurmann, also known as Schürmann or Schrörmann, was a German Baroque composer born in Idensen, near Hanover, in 1672/73. He was a prolific composer, writing over thirty operas, many of which have unfortunately been lost over time. Schurmann was considered a leading opera composer during the Baroque era , and his works were performed in cities such as Brunswick, Hanover, and Leipzig.
Today, Schurmann's music is not as well-known as that of his contemporaries like Bach and Handel, but his works are nonetheless considered to be of high quality. In recent years, there has been a renewed interest in Schurmann's music, and some of his pieces have been recorded and performed in concerts alongside the works of other Baroque composers.
Schurmann passed away in 1751 in Wolfenbüttel, Germany, leaving behind a legacy of Baroque music that is still appreciated today.
