Full biography Frigyes Hidas
Frigyes Hidas was a Hungarian composer and musician, born on September 28, 1928 in Budapest. He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where he initially majored in viola. However, he later switched to composition, completing his studies under the tutelage of Zoltán Kodály and Ferenc Farkas.
He is best known for his works for wind instruments, which often featured unconventional combinations of instruments. Hidas composed several works for chamber ensembles, as well as concertos for various wind instruments. His music is recognized for its unique style, which combines elements of the modernist and post-romantic traditions.
Hidas served as a professor of composition and music theory at the Liszt Academy, and was also a member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts. He received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Kossuth Prize, Hungary's highest cultural award, in 1985.
In addition to his career as a composer, Hidas was also an accomplished conductor and pianist. He died on October 25, 2007 in Budapest, leaving behind a legacy of innovative and influential music for wind instruments.
