Full biography Friedrich von Flotow
Friedrich von Flotow was a German composer who lived during the 19th century. Born on April 27, 1812 in Teutendorf, Germany, Flotow was regarded as one of the leading operatic composers of his time.
Flotow was born into a musical family, and he began studying music at a young age. His musical education was diverse and included instruction in piano, cello, violin, and composition. Flotow's first opera, "L'ultimo degli Abencerragi", was produced in Trieste in 1836, but it was not until the production of "Le Naufrage de la Méduse" in 1839 that he gained widespread recognition.
Flotow's most famous work was his opera, "Martha", which was first performed in Vienna in 1847. The opera was an instant success and was soon produced in all the major opera houses of Europe. "Martha" remains popular to this day and is considered a masterpiece of the Romantic era.
Flotow's other operas include "Alessandro Stradella", "L'ombre", and "Indra". He also composed many songs and choral works, as well as incidental music for plays.
Despite his success as a composer, Flotow faced financial difficulties later in life and was forced to sell the rights to his most popular operas. He continued to compose until his death on January 24, 1883, leaving behind a legacy of innovative and beautiful music.
