Friedrich Funcke was a German composer, theologian, and hymn writer born on March 27, 1642, in Nossen, Hartzen. After completing his schooling in Freiberg and Dresden, he went on to study theology in Wittenberg. However, his passion for music led him to pursue composition as well. He wrote at least forty-one hymns during his lifetime, some of which are still used today in German Lutheran congregations.

Funcke's musical style is characterized by his use of both sacred and secular themes in his works. He composed pieces for both vocal and instrumental ensembles. His works range from simple melodies to highly complex choral pieces, demonstrating his versatility as a composer.

While Funcke is not as well-known as some of his contemporaries, he was an important figure in German music history.
