Friedrich Benda was a German composer of the late Baroque and early Classical eras. He was born on July 22, 1745, in the town of Potsdam, Germany, as the son of the famous composer and violinist Franz Benda. Friedrich Benda was trained in music by his father and uncle, and he later served as a violinist and concertmaster in the court orchestras of various German princes.
Friedrich Benda is best known for his compositions for the violin, including numerous concertos, sonatas, and chamber music works. He was also a gifted keyboard player, and his works often feature virtuosic passages for both the violin and keyboard.
Many of Friedrich Benda's works were published during his lifetime, and they were well-known and highly regarded by contemporary audiences and musicians. Frederick II of Prussia, a patron of the arts, was particularly fond of Benda's music, and invited him to perform at his court on several occasions.
Friedrich Benda died on March 27, 1786, in the town of Gotha, Germany, at the age of 40. Despite his relatively short life, he left a significant legacy in the form of his many compositions for the violin and keyboard, which continue to be played and studied by musicians and music lovers today.
