Full biography Frederick Jacobi
Frederick Jacobi was an American composer who lived from 1891 to 1952. He was born in San Francisco, California, and received his musical education at the University of California, Berkeley, and at the Juilliard School in New York. He also served as a saxophonist in the U.S. Army Band.
Jacobi's compositions ranged from symphonies and concertos to chamber music and works for solo instrument. His music was characterized by its energetic rhythms, lyrical melodies, and inventive harmonies, and was influenced by both classical and modernist styles.
During his lifetime, Jacobi's music was highly regarded by both audiences and critics, and he received many prestigious commissions and awards, including the Guggenheim Fellowship and the Pulitzer Prize in Music.
Jacobi was also active as a music educator and a writer on music, editing the journal Modern Music and serving on the faculty of the Juilliard School. He was a member of several influential music organizations, including the League of Composers and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).
Today, Jacobi's music is less frequently performed, but his contributions to American classical music are still recognized and celebrated.
