Franz Volkert

Franz Volkert (2 February 1767 - 22 March 1845) was an Austrian composer and organist. He was born in Friedland, which is located in present-day Czechia. Volkert was known for his prolific output of light operas and church music.

Volkert composed a significant amount of music for the theater, including operas, singspiele, and vaudevilles. He is said to have composed over 100 operas in his lifetime. In addition to his theatrical works, Volkert composed a great deal of church music, including masses, motets, and offertories.

Volkert was a contemporary of other notable Austrian composers such as Franz Schubert and Johann Nepomuk Hummel. While his music was not as well-known as that of his contemporaries, Volkert was nevertheless a respected figure in the Viennese music scene.

Today, some of Volkert's works are still performed and recorded, particularly his church music. Overall, Franz Volkert was an important figure in the world of Austrian music during the early 19th century, known for his output of vibrant theater music and beautiful church music.
