Franz Lehrndorfer was a German organist, conductor, and composer born on November 4th, 1928 in Munich, Germany. He was a renowned musician who gained recognition both nationally and internationally for his expertise as an organist and his contributions to the field of contemporary music. He received his musical education at the Munich Conservatory and later studied with the illustrious composer Carl Orff at the Orff-Schulwerk.

During the 1950s, Lehrndorfer established himself as one of the most outstanding organists of his time. He played solo recitals across Europe, earning praise for his exceptional technique and interpretive skills. His skills as a conductor were also noteworthy, as he was frequently invited to conduct leading orchestras around the world. In addition to his talents in performance, Lehrndorfer was also an accomplished composer, with over 50 compositions to his name.

He is perhaps best known for his contributions to sacred music. His compositions range from works for choir and organ to full orchestral and operatic pieces. Among his most notable works is his oratorio "Te Deum," which he composed in 1965. Other significant works include his "Requiem in F Minor," which he composed in 1978, and his "German Mass," which he composed in 1984.

In addition to his contributions as a composer, Lehrndorfer was also a passionate advocate for contemporary music. He founded the Munich Biennial, a festival dedicated to contemporary music, in 1988 and served as its director until 2008. The festival showcased the works of well-known composers and provided a platform for new and upcoming talent.

Lehrndorfer's contributions to music were appreciated and recognized by many institutions, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, which he received in 1996. He continued to be active in music until his death on March 3rd, 2013, at the age of 84.
