Franz Hitz was a Swiss-born pianist and composer who lived and worked primarily in France. He was born on July 17, 1828, and passed away on November 20, 1891. Hitz was known for his numerous operas, cantatas, and other works, many of which were written for the French stage.

Hitz studied music in both Geneva and Paris, and he made his debut as a pianist in 1850 at a concert in Paris. He soon began composing and premiered his first opera, "La Serenade", in 1854. Hitz continued to compose throughout his life, and his works were performed in many French theaters and concert halls.

Hitz's music is characterized by its romantic style, with strong melody and lush harmonies. He was known for his skillful orchestration and for his ability to create memorable themes that captured the emotional essence of his subjects.
