Full biography Francois de Fossa
Francois de Fossa was a French composer, guitarist, and soldier, born on August 31, 1775. He had a successful military career and served as a captain in Napoleon's army. De Fossa began studying the guitar at a young age and later studied with Spanish guitarist and composer Dionisio Aguado. He was also friends with Aguado and helped him write his Method.
De Fossa composed a significant amount of music for the guitar, including solo works, chamber music, and concertos. His compositions were highly regarded in his time and showed a thorough knowledge of guitar technique and musical form.
While his military duties limited his time for music, de Fossa continued to compose throughout his life. However, his compositions became increasingly neglected after his death in 1849 until they were rediscovered in the 20th century. Today, de Fossa is recognized as one of the most significant guitar composers of the 19th century, and his works are performed and recorded by guitarists worldwide.
Overall, Francois de Fossa was a talented composer and guitarist whose music continues to be appreciated and enjoyed by musicians and music lovers alike.
