Franciscus Bossinensis was a composer and writer of the Renaissance era. He is believed to have been born in the town of Bossi in Lombardy, Italy, around 1460.

Very little is known about Bossinensis' life, but he is primarily known for his works that reflect the musical styles of the early Renaissance period. Bossinensis served as a chapel musician in Ferrara, Italy, in the 1490s, and he may have also worked in a similar position in nearby Venice.

Bossinensis' music was written predominantly for lute, and he wrote numerous collections of lute music in the early 16th century. These collections included fantasias, intabulations, and dances, and they were highly regarded by contemporary musicians and music lovers.

In addition to his musical works, Bossinensis also wrote a treatise on music titled "Liber de arte contrapuncti" (Book of the art of counterpoint), which was published in Venice in 1494. This treatise was highly influential in its time and provided valuable guidance to composers and musicians looking to develop their skills in counterpoint and other musical techniques.

Despite his relatively little-known place in the Renaissance musical canon, Bossinensis' contributions to music history were significant. Through his works and his treatise, he helped advance the musical styles and techniques that were defining the Renaissance era, leaving a lasting impact on Western music that can still be felt to this day.
