Folke Rabe was a Swedish composer who is known for his experimental and electronically generated music. He was born in Stockholm in 1935 and began studying music at the Royal Academy of Music in his hometown in 1953. After completing his studies, Rabe began composing music for instruments including the clarinet and trombone, as well as experimenting with electronic music.

In the late 1960s, Rabe gained international recognition for his innovative and groundbreaking works, including "What??" which was created in the late summer of 1967. During this time, he also wrote pieces like "Bolos" for four trombones and "Rondes" for driving.

Rabe continued composing throughout the 1970s and beyond, incorporating both acoustic and electronic elements into his works. He also worked as a music teacher and served as a professor of composition at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm from 1981 to 2000.

Overall, Folke Rabe's contributions to contemporary music have been significant, and he has inspired a new generation of composers with his innovative and experimental approach to sound creation and his willingness to push the boundaries of what is conventionally considered music.
