Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou, known professionally as Vangelis, was a Greek composer and musician. He was born on March 29, 1943, near the city of Volos in Greece. Vangelis started his music career as a keyboardist in several bands in the 1960s and 1970s.
He later went on to achieve worldwide fame for his solo work and collaborations with artists such as Jon Anderson of Yes and filmmaker Ridley Scott. Vangelis has composed music for various films, including "Chariots of Fire" and "Blade Runner", which earned him widespread recognition.
In addition to film scores, Vangelis also composed music for theatre and ballet and produced several solo albums. He is widely regarded as a pioneer of electronic music and has been noted for his unique use of synthesizers to create musical textures that are otherworldly and captivating.
Vangelis has won numerous awards for his music, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and several Grammy Awards.
