Euday Louis Bowman (November 9 , 1886 - May 26, 1949) was an American pianist and composer of ragtime and blues hailing from Texas. He is best known for his composition "Twelfth Street Rag", which was published in 1914 and continues to be widely performed.
Bowman showed an early interest in music, and by the age of 23, he had already established himself as a music teacher. He began writing his own compositions during his teens and early twenties. Bowman's first commercial success as a composer came with the publication of "Twelfth Street Rag," which he also recorded and published himself. The melody became a hit, and Bowman continued to compose and publish additional works throughout his career, focusing mainly on ragtime and blues styles.
Aside from his work as a composer, Bowman made a few trips to Kansas City to make recordings and wrote sheet music as well. He was also an author and arranger and was educated in the public school system.
