Full biography Ernst Eichner
Ernst Eichner (1740-1777) was a German composer who lived during the classical era. Although he had a short career, spanning from 1763 to 1776, Eichner is best known for his 31 symphonies. He composed almost all of them in a brief span of time. Additionally, he also wrote several concertos for winds, harp, oboe, and other instruments.
Eichner was born in the town of Strasbourg, which was part of Germany at the time. He trained with Johann Philipp Kirnberger, a prominent composer and theorist, and soon became an accomplished musician. In 1763, he began working at the court of Duke Karl I of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, where he remained for the rest of his career.
During his time at the Duke’s court, Eichner composed a number of works for large ensembles. His symphonies, many of which are in three movements, are notable for their melodic elegance and subtle expressive nuances. His concertos are also noteworthy for their technical finesse and lyrical beauty.
Eichner's music reflects the style of the classical period, which emphasized simplicity, balance, and clarity of expression. His works are characterized by their clear melodic lines, graceful phrases, and balanced harmonies. Although he was not as well-known as some of his contemporaries, Eichner's music was widely admired during his lifetime and continues to be performed and recorded today.
