Erhard Bodenschatz was a German composer and music editor who lived from 1576 to 1636. He is best known for his work as the editor of the Florilegium Portense, a collection of over 1,200 sacred motets by more than 200 composers, published in 1618. The collection includes works by well-known composers of the time, such as Giovanni Gabrieli and Orlando di Lasso, as well as lesser-known figures.
Bodenschatz was a cantor at the famous Pforta school in Saxony, Germany, where he likely had access to a large library of musical works. In addition to his work as an editor, Bodenschatz was also a composer in his own right, and wrote a number of motets and other sacred works.
Today, Bodenschatz is primarily remembered for his work as an editor of the Florilegium Portense, which was a significant contribution to the musical life of his time. The collection remains an important resource for scholars of early music, and has been the subject of numerous studies and recordings.
