Erasmus Widmann (1572-1634) was a South German composer and poet born in Schwbisch Hall , Germany. He was recognized as a prolific composer and wrote a wide range of musical works, including motets, Psalms, songs, dance music, and instrumental music. Widmann had a strong classical training, and his mythological works illustrate this.
Notably, he wrote his own texts for secular compositions, and his texts were known for their erratic nature. Widmann was also recognized for his skills as an organist and musician. He spent some time in England, where he likely encountered the works of William Byrd and other notable composers.
Some of Widmann's works include Nun hrt, ihr Herrn and Wohlauf, Ihr Gste. He passed away on October 31, 1634, at the age of 62. Today, he is remembered as a significant composer and poet of the Baroque era.
