Enrico Cannio was an Italian musician and composer, born in Naples in 1874 and died in Naples in 1949. He was known for writing Neapolitan songs and collaborated with many local song publishers. One of his famous compositions is “‘O surdato ‘nnammurato”, a song that describes the sadness of a soldier who is fighting at war and missing his beloved. The music was composed by Cannio in 1915, with lyrics written by Aniello Califano. Cannio also wrote many other songs, and his music and style were popular in Naples during his lifetime. He is remembered today as one of the prominent composers of Neapolitan songs.
