Emil Bohnke was a German musician and composer born in 1888, who was known for his work as a violist and conductor. His career as a composer was relatively short-lived as he passed away in 1928 at the young age of 40. However, his work during this time was of high quality and greatly appreciated by his contemporaries.

Bohnke's compositions fall squarely in the Romantic tradition of classical music, with a strong emphasis on melody and emotion. Some of his most notable works include "Thema mit Variationen fur Grosses Orchester" and "Solo Viola Sonata No.1." Additionally , Bohnke was known for his interpretations of works by other composers, particularly those of the Viennese Classical period.

Bohnke was also a violinist and conductor, and he enjoyed a successful career in both of these roles. He was a member of the renowned Wihan Quartet, which was considered one of the most important string quartets of the early 20th century.
