Elizabeth R. Austin (1938-2018) was an American composer known for her unique and innovative approach to music composition. She was born in New York City and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in music from Vassar College, and then her master's degree from the University of Illinois.

Throughout her career, Austin composed numerous works of chamber, orchestral, and electronic music. Some of her most notable compositions include "Another Place" (1982), "String Quartet No. 1" (1985), and "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra" (1991).

In addition to her compositional work, Austin was also an accomplished academic and educator. She served as a professor of music at various universities throughout her career, including Brooklyn College, Duke University, and the University of California, Davis. Austin was also a pioneer in the field of electronic music, and helped establish the electronic music program at the University of California, Davis.

Throughout her life, Elizabeth R. Austin was awarded numerous accolades and honors for her distinguished work in music composition. She was a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Composer Fellowship, as well as the American Academy of Arts and Letters Music Award. Austin continued to compose music until her passing in 2018, leaving behind a legacy as an influential and respected figure in the world of contemporary music.
