Full biography Elinor Armer
Elinor Armer is an American composer, pianist and music educator born on October 6, 1939, in Oakland, California. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Composition from Mills College and Masters of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Armer has composed music in a wide variety of genres, including chamber, choral, vocal, solo instrumental, and orchestral music. Her compositions are widely performed throughout the United States as well as abroad.
Armer has received numerous awards and honors for her work including the Darius Milhaud Award from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Her collaborations with writer Ursula K. Le Guin have resulted in a multi-disciplinary series of works over the course of a decade.
In addition to composing , Armer is a distinguished music educator. She began teaching at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 1970 and has led workshops and master classes at numerous institutions throughout the United States and internationally. She has also been a mentor and role model to many young musicians.
Through her career, Armer has made valuable contributions to the field of contemporary music as a composer, performer and educator. Her work continues to inspire and engage audiences around the world.
